What to Bring
- Bedding (pillow, sleeping bag or set of twin sheets and blanket)
- Shower and toiletry items
- Money (for snacks, craft shop, bookstore, offerings, message recordings, special activities etc)
- Note-taking items
- A change of casual clothes for daily activities
- Ladies: knee-length clothing
- Men: pants, jeans, or knee length shorts
- A change of nicer clothes for the evening service
- Ladies: dresses or skirts
- Men: pants and collared shirts
- Gym shoes or sandals
- Set of clothing to get muddy in
- Sports clothing
- Sleep wear
- Swim wear (during warm weather camps and retreats)
- Ladies: 1-piece bathing suit
- Men: swim trunks
- We recommend everyone bring water shoes
What NOT to Bring: fireworks, weapons, illegal drugs, tobacco products, knives, alcoholic drinks, cell phones, ipods, tablets, vape items, clothing with worldly entertainment or vulgar expressions or graphic images
What Kind of Dress is Expected?
We ask that clothing be loose fitting, all shorts and skirts should reach the top of the knee. Tank tops, halter tops, and shirts revealing the midriff are not allowed. Clothing with worldly advertisement (e.g. rock groups) will not be permitted. We ask that ladies bring a modest one piece swimsuit. For our evening service, casual dress clothes are appreciated. Ladies please bring dresses or skirts; guys please bring nice pants and collared shirt.
Can I Talk to My Camper During the Week?
We highly encourage sending mail or using our contact form to send a message to your camper. We do discourage phone calls, unless it is an emergency. If there is an emergency, you will be able to get in touch with your child by calling our main office number: (540) 672-0426. If your child needs to get in touch with you, they can get permission to use their cell phone from the sponsor or by coming by our main office and talking with one of our staff.
Will My Camper be Able to Call Home?
To keep the campers from being distracted and to minimize the chance for stolen phones, we ask that all cell phones be turned in to sponsors at the beginning of the week. If there is an emergency, you will be able to get in touch with your child by calling our main office number: (540) 672-0426. If your child needs to get in touch with you, they can get permission to use their cell phone from the sponsor or by coming by our main office and talking with one of our staff.
Will My Camper Need Money During the Week?
We offer campers camp-wear for $10.00 to $20.00. We also have a snack shop (open twice a day) that offers drinks and snack items for $0.25 to $3.50.
What Supervision is There for Campers?
RBC counselors or the representative from the church your child comes with are encouraged to be with their camper group at all times, not only to supervise but also to enhance your child’s camp experience by encouraging participation in activities.
Are There Water Activities?
Lake: We have a 2.5 acre lake with various boats and canoes available. We require the counselors and campers to wear life jackets while participating in these activities.
Pool: We have a pool with a 250 foot water slide. All campers swimming in the deep end must pass a swim test. We have trained life guards on duty during swim time.
What Happens if My Camper is Sick?
Each staff member during staff training week is required to take CPR and first aid. We also have a trained medical person on-site to handle all medication and emergencies. All camper medications must be turned in to the camp medic upon check-in.
What if My Camper is Taking Medication?
All drugs must be put in their original containers along with instructions. All medicine will be given by our camp medic.
When Do I Pick Up My Camper?
Camp ends at 1:30 pm Friday afternoon. Please pick your children up at this time.
*If your camper is being picked up by someone other than his/her legal guardian or your church group, you must make the camp aware of it prior to the day of dismissal.
*For your child’s protection, we reserve the right to detain your child from leaving until proper identification is shown and/or the legal guardians have been contacted.
*All children not leaving with a church group must be signed out in the office before they leave.
What Happens to Lost and Found?
Lost and Found items are only kept for two weeks before being disposed off. Camp Rapidan is not responsible for lost or stolen items. We do not mail found items back to the campers unless arrangements are made for the recipient to cover postage. Otherwise, the items may be picked up at the camp.
